Ata ATUN, a Civil Engineer, also established the ATUN Architecture Office with his older brother, Architect Bora ATUN, and in the 1970s they designed a very important part of the Turkish neighborhoods of Famagusta. ATUN INCORPORATED, founded by Ata Atun and Suna Atun, was registered as ATUN LIMITED under the Turkish Cypriot Federated State on May 16, 1976 with the registry of MŞ.370. 

ATUN LIMITED undertakes the import and distribution of Swiss product natural sweetener brand HERMESETAS, Belgian production of Vitamin C aspirin UPSA, and UK product baby products brand CANON with the Turkish Cypriot general agency agreement. In 1981, they opened A&S ATUN SUPER STORE, the first shopping store of Famagusta, in the city walls.

In 1982, the importation of Italian METO label machines is started. In 1984, the import of general materials from the People’s Republic of CHINA begins. Again in the 1980s, the production of hairpins is started and the products are exported to the Motherland of Turkey.During their primary and secondary education, the children of the family Asu Atun and Sunat Atun work full time in the manufacturing department. Intermediate products produced for Sanayi Holding are also exported to the Motherland of Turkey. In 1986, the import of Profilo cash registers produced in the Motherland of Turkey begins.

Our company continues to grow with real estates purchased inside and outside the city walls of Famagusta. In 1994, Suna Atun and Ata Atun entered the field of ship ownership by purchasing the Turkish Republic flagged m/v Suna-1 ship with a carrying capacity of 650 tons. In 1996, the TRNC flagged m/v Suna-2 ship with a carrying capacity of 1050 tons joins our family. In the same years, our company also started agency activities in Famagusta port and strengthened its infrastructure by investing in Mobile Cranes. 

In 1996, Asu Atun completed her Business Administration education in England and started working in the family business. In 1997, our fleet was expanded by purchasing our m/v Suna-3 ships with a carrying capacity of 1900 tons with parallel flags of Honduras and TRNC. 

In 1999, Sunat Atun completed his higher education and military service and started working in the family company, and in 2001 he assumed the position of general manager of the company. 

In 2000, the SAMTAY foundation was established with family members under the chairmanship of Suna Atun. The foundation comes to life as a social responsibility project of the family. The main mission of the foundation is to bring to light all sections of the culture, literature, history, economy and social life of Cyprus that have remained unknown in history. 55 publications in these fields have been brought into Turkish Cypriot history between 2000 and 2017, most of them by Mrs. Suna Atun and Ata Atun’s research. 

In 2001, the logistics infrastructure of the company was strengthened by renting an area of ​​2100 square meters on the quay in Famagusta Free Port. In 2003, our coaster ship with the TRNC flag with a carrying capacity of 1250 tons was purchased by Sunat Atun. It is named mv ASU ATUN. It is classified by Türk Loydu by increasing its condition. In 2006, our Germanischer Lloyd-classed Panama-flagged ship with a carrying capacity of 1950 tons was purchased by Sunat Atun and added to our fleet and named mv PINAR ATUN. In the same year, our company has been certified with the Lloyd’s Register ISM certificate, which is a member of IACS for its ship operating systems. On this occasion, our company has gained the title of TRNC’s only IACS-classed ship operator and operating company holding ISM certificate. And honored with membership of IMO WHITE LIST. 

Our company has Bureau Veritas ISO 9001:2009 quality certificate for freight transportation, land transportation, ship agency and loading services. Our company, which also operates in the field of container transportation (Forwarding), is a full member of FIATA. Our company is also a shipowner member of BIMCO. 

In 2006, SU ATUN BUSINESS CENTER on İsmet İnönü Boulevard was built by Sunat Atun and the headquarters of the company was moved here. In 2007, our KKTC-flagged dry bulk cargo ship with a carrying capacity of 2250 tons was purchased by Sunat Atun and named m/v ATA ATUN. In 2008, our Lloyd-class 4450-ton dry bulk carrier was purchased by Sunat Atun and named m/v Suna. In this process, our company continues to develop its general import and distribution area. The importation of products such as construction iron and steel profiles, galvanized pipes, sheet metal, and steel mesh in the TRNC is also started. Our company becomes the TRNC authorized importer of Baştuğ Metallurgy products, one of the powerful industrial establishments of İskenderun.
